Details:

Research is part of our creative and reenactment lives in the SCA – but it can be complicated by niche subjects, and difficulty of access.

You may not know what key texts are available for your area of interest, how to access them, or if a particular costly resource is worth your investment.

Meanwhile, others may have extensive libraries of handouts, articles, books, and published texts.

This ungarbed event is designed to help with some of that, by bringing together these people and resources!

We will also have a roundtable discussion of local and online resources available for SCA research, alongside afternoon tea.

If you have a wealth of information and resources, please come and let others have a look at them. If you have an area of interest, come and see what might be available for it.

You can see topics attendees have expressed interest in here

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea will be provided. If you would like to contribute by bringing a plate, please feel free to do so, but do not feel obliged. No pineapple, please.

Online Resources Discussion

We will have a brief discussion of both some easily accessible and less well-known online resources available for SCA research – following which we will compile a list available to all attendees (and provided more widely)

Please email the steward (cecilydemontgomery@gmail.com) before the event or bring along any ideas you have to add to this.

We will also look more broadly at widely available resources, including online and local resources.

Physical Resource Sharing

Participants are encouraged to bring along key or rare resources you may own and are happy for people to examine. Please ensure your resources are labelled or otherwise identifiable as yours in case of duplication.

Consider if you are happy for participants to photocopy or scan portions of the resource for fair dealing private research purposes – photocopiers and scanning are available in the library complex.

You can tell us resources you intend to bring or areas you are interested in on the booking form.

While this is not a marketplace event, if you have excess items you would like to give away or sell reasonably, please feel free to bring them along for people to peruse.

Fair Dealing for Private Research Scanning/Photocopying

If you would like to be able to scan or photocopy resources, please ensure that you have a valid Christchurch City library account and card, and for photocopying, some funds loaded to pay for photocopying.

See here for information on Fair Dealing for Private Research.

Please remember that not all participants may be comfortable with you doing so – it is not an obligation of participation, but a courtesy.
