Three years ago Baroness Joana gave us a Night in Granada. Granada was one city. Al-Andalus was the whole world that city belonged to, and on the twenty-sixth of September we are going back to eat our way across it.

Every dish comes from a single manuscript, the anonymous Andalusian cookbook, set down in the thirteenth century by a cook whose name nobody recorded. In those same centuries, in the same language, other hands were writing out the tales of Scheherazade. This is that world, and this is what it ate.

What is coming out of the kitchen stays in the kitchen until it reaches your table. What I will tell you is this. Saffron and rosewater. Cinnamon, coriander, cumin. Almonds in more places than you are expecting. Things cooked slowly and things fried fast, sweet arriving where you thought savoury would be, and a final course with every intention of defeating you.

The kitchens of al-Andalus were Islamic ones, so there is no pork on this menu and no wine in the cooking.

Come at dusk. Wear your best. Bring your feast gear, and bring somebody who has never sat down to one of these.

Feast, adults $40 · Feast, children under 16 $25 · Off-board $10
Non-members add $5

Hall opens 5PM · Feast starts 6pm

Off-board means you come for the evening, the company and the entertainment, and bring your own food. You sit at the tables with everyone else.
Feast bookings close Sunday 20 September.
Tree nuts run right through this cuisine, so tell me early and I will work something out with you.
