MATTERS ARISING: Tour d´Or Medals had not been ordered last month, but have now. OFFICER REPORTS: SENESCHAL: Correspondence with: -Lots and lots of people regarding the St Crispins event -Several gentles regards the matter of alcohol sales at our events. -TE Bartholomew and katherine, and Their Majesties, regards Baronial polling. -Ignatius of Castleburn, regards upcoming changes of officers in the Highlands. -Lord Raife and other, regards the Ellesmere A&P show demo. -Lady Ginevra, in regards to some bill payments. -Several officers, regards reporting matters. Other: -Facilitated a rejig of stewarding arrangements for St Crispins. Many many thanks to all who chipped in to help at what turned out to be a really fun event, especially to Rohesia for her vision, and Raife for putting it into action. -Ran Baronial polling to its conclusion. The Polling forms have been sent off to Their Majesties and we hope to have a response in December. -Still to do: Must update registration on Baronial Trailer! Bad Seneschal! No biscuit! ACTION: Seneschal to register trailer, preferably pre Nov 20th. CHATELAINE: Taddea suggested contacting a magazine called Heritage Matters re doing an article on CF. Unfortunately, after contacting them, they advised they only deal with NZ heritage and cover the NZ colonial era (1840´s) onwards. Newcomers - Annemeike and her two teenage boys who have visited some of the fighter/archery & rapier practices over recent weeks. Clothed them for St Crispins out of hire garb. They really enjoyed the event and are intending to book for CF. - I´m sure we´ll see more of them before then as well. Central Library Display is up and running this week (will extend out if next booking for space doesn´t confirm). Grateful thanks to Eleanora for assisting me with the set up last Sunday and to those who have loaned items. Had one request in for Hire Garb for CF so far. At Ellesmere A&P Show. Heralded Court at the St Crispins day event, Southron Gaard. Have corresponded with the new Crux Australis, event stewards, and attending volunteers over heralding duties at CF. Have corresponded with potential candidates for replacement Tour d´Or Herald. Have printed out forms for a discussion at FP with another gentleman wishing to acquire arms. Here endeth the report MARSHAL: Practices happened. Have now moved to Riccarton Bush, unsure of success of move as have been out of the country for the last 2 weekends. Any feedback from those that have attended? Still stepping down at CF. LISTS: Lists has nothing to report. CAPTAIN OF ARCHERS: My apologies for not being able to attend, but here goes. All IKAC scores sent to the keeper of the IKAC, several newcomers to practice on a regular basis, no injuries except targets. Regularly getting 4- 6 archers to the line each week. All in all, things are going well. CAPTAIN OF RAPIER: Practices are continuing, many supplementary authorisations issued. No injuries. A&S: Submitted quarterly report. Stuff night theme: Intro to Marshalling. CHRONICLER: FTT uploaded to Baronial Webpage 1 November 2008 and email notification sent to SG, Castelburn and St Kessog e-lists as well as Kingdom Chronicler on 3 November 2008. Attended: St Crispin´s Correspondence: with various officers & individuals regarding regular columns, specific articles and event advertisements for publication as well as requirements for permission to publish. Submitted quarterly report Other Business: Deadline for December issue is 4pm, 21 November 2008. Deadline for January issue is 4pm, 19 December 2008. Webwright is no longer deputised to this position. [Change at SCA level rippling down] WEBWRIGHT: No report. CONSTABLE: Attended Southron Gaards St Crispins event and ran the gate. Also collected, itemised and organised return of lost property from this event. QUARTERMASTER: Stewarded St Crispins 2 day event. Tons of work done with Taddea, Antonia, Sophie and Belle. Transported loads of quartermaster supplies, Baronial Trailer, kitchen sinks etc. Attended Ellesmere A&P Show and set up. Transported Baronial Trailer and borrowed lots of things for display (thanks to Lord Oswyn). Have located and nabbed materials required for Childrens Fort for CF. Have located materials for extra adults fort walls. Will request assistance to complete over summer holidays B&B: Attended Ellesmere A&P show demo, St Crispins, singing. Correspondence with: Kingdom Seneschal, Their Majesties and bid Stewards re Nov Crown Bid; Their Majesties re Baronial Succession; Raife re CF site storage; Castleburn folk re Sire vs Canton considerations; Emilio re Day of Tourneys timing; Their Majesties re names for Australia and New Zealand. Their Majesties have formally advised that They are henceforth using `the Continent´ to refer to Australia (Including Ynys Fawr), and ` the Cresent Isles´ to refer to New Zealand, and They will be recommending this approach to Their Heirs. In keeping with an agreement between the Landed Baronages earlier this year, the Baronages will be following Their Majesties´ lead and encouraging their populace to follow suit. Pray do! EVENT REPORTS/UPDATES: DAY of TOURNEYS City Council uncommunicative - at this stage it seems as though Sunday Dec 14th should be ok. When we have confirmed a venue, announcements will be made. ST CRISPINS EQUESTRIAN EVENT No report as yet. ACTION: Raife to report. ELLESMERE A&P SHOW DEMO: Show went well. People got beaten up by kids. Commentry on fighting would have been good. Discussion was had as to the value of repeating the exercise next year, and it was decided in favour, though musters are more beneficial for increasing our numbers. HERALDIC SYMPOSIUM: Currently have 20 official bookings, and will be looking to encourage more. Formal booking is not required, so I expect that there will certainly be more people on the day turning up. All in hand. NOVEMBER WAR PRACTICE (Kotek): No report. CF 2009: Duncan was volunteered by acclaim to be in charge of Marquee erection. If more than 200 people book for the full event (as is looking probable) we may have higher costs due to site pricing. It would be nice if people could read (main issues: Porridge, and Saturday and Sunday) GENERAL BUSINESS: CASTELBURN REPORT This month we held a regular meeting on 3 October attended by Lord Emilio di Battista who stayed on the give a much appreciated rapier workshop the following day. We held a very positive Anniversary Meeting on 17th October and discussed our ideas for the year ahead. There will be some shifts in the Castleburn Council before the end of the year, and I hope to be able to give you a final list of officers in my next report. We also joined in a picnic in a local park to commemorate the dissolution of the Templar order (pun intended) and held rapier and dance practices as normal. Aelred and I also played for an ecumenical community celebrating its 50th anniversary on St Martin´s Island, off Portobello in Otago Harbour - the weather was atrocious and thus very atmospheric indeed.... Paperwork to be signed at meetings end and sent off to Rocket Herald. TOUR D´OR MEDALLIONS: Ordered now despite hiccups. OTHER BUSINESS: We have Royal Heirs, Their Highnesses Theuderic and Engilin. SG´s November Crown bid may yet be approved - we´ll know in a week or so. SCA NZ memberships are now cheaper! Yay! Fire blankets - 1.8m x 1.2m are $37 including GST MOTION: We buy 2 of the above APPROVED Bjorn was considering making a currency, discussion ranged over legal ramifications, trading/collection issues and the chances of use as a souvenir or currency.
