Southron Gaard Renaissance Challenge

Herewith the provisions of the Renaissance Challenge and a list of those gentles who have completed each element thereof. Recognising that certain elements will be easier for some than for others, each has "Novice" and "Experienced" options - in each area, you may choose which to undertake as you see fit.

Original Announcement
BA, March, A.S. XLI

Whereas it is the firmly-held view of the Baron and Baroness of Southron Gaard that the people of these lands have for long been second-to-none in the Kingdom in the accomplishment of the various arts, crafts, sciences, martial displays and service which combine to build and knit together our shared Dream.

Yet it must be noted that in recent times the Barony, Canton and College have been blessed by many newcomers, some of whom have yet to acquire certain of the skills and attributes possessed by those who have been here longer. And also that certain of the aforementioned long-standing inhabitants of the Barony may have become complacent or perhaps somewhat narrow in their focus, and may no longer practice all of their skills with the same aplomb and dexterity as once they did.

Thus it is that Bartholomew and katherine, Baron and Baroness of Southron Gaard, hereby challenge each and every member of the populace of the Barony, Canton and College to join the Renaissance -- not in persona terms, but in the expression of your accomplishments. In our eyes, a Renaissance individual can dance, sing, fight, write, cook, and more, acquitting themselves well in all the Courtly Arts.

Therefore we say to each of you - look not to your previous accomplishments. Starting from now, and for the space of a twelve-month, set out to build or demonstrate your capabilities in the following areas: the Arts Martial, the Written Arts, the Performing Arts, the Culinary Arts, in Craft and in Service.

Take up this challenge, learn new skills or polish old ones, assist others to achieve their Dream. To those who achieve these goals before Baronial Anniversary next will be awarded a special token and great honour, for they will truly be a Renaissance Gentle.

Note

The key task(s) in each area must be completed at or in relation to a formal event held in the Barony of Southron Gaard, including in Castelburn and St Kessog. For example, while you may create an item at a workshop or at home, it must be displayed at a formal event in order to qualify. Activities qualify if they are undertaken any time after the start of Baronial Anniversary, A.S. XLI (2007). The Challenge is open to all members of the populace, of any age.
